tossing humor blatently
in my direction and i catch it with a lens and with a smile.
As you laugh,
your sweater presses in against you in the breeze.
You look smaller than you already are and yet,
that isn't how i remember you.
It's daytime and it's springtime.
You clasp lightly the edges of your dress with your fingers, looking down
as you lightly spin, holding the day in place.
In developing film i remember you for
all your largeness. With fortitude and will you are bigger
than any other face i know.
And finally, you move in close and whisper light to me,
your eyes the only part of you that speak
towards a sadness overcome.
